Christmas Electronics - Get Great Deals on the Hottest Technologies

When you buy electronics for Christmas, you can often get outstanding deals on new products. Read this article to find out the proper strategies to use when buying gadgets and gizmos at Christmas and throughout the entire year.

Let's first ask this question: What is the primary difference between a digital camera made today versus one that was made 6 months ago?

If you answered "the price", you are probably right.

In my job, I am constantly doing product comparisons. There are two main categories that I look when doing these comparisons: features and price.

We need to ask the question, "What, if any, new features does this product have? What sets it apart from its predecessors?" For example, if the product is one of the new point and shoot digital cameras, we look at things like usability, megapixels, style, and, most importantly, user feedback.

The second category is price. How is this new technology priced in relation to other cameras that have these features? And, perhaps more importantly, how does the price of this item compare to the previous model?

When we ask these questions, we often find that there is a price to the "newness" of an item. It is always fun to say that you have the latest and greatest gadget. We all know these people who are waiting at the store to get the hottest new item. We know because they tell us all about it and show off their new techie toys to us.

But are they getting a good deal?

The answer is "absolutely not", with one exception.

The features that are added to a "new" item are usually those that you will never use or features that do not justify the exorbitant price of the item. For example, if we take a look at the top rated LCD TVs, we can see a huge price difference between those that are 50 inches and those that are 52 inches. How much extra are you willing to pay for those extra 2 inches? In many cases, the price for those 2 inches is about 100% more.

The general rule is this: If you buy the latest gadgets, you are paying more for the "newness" than for the features. However, there is one exception to this rule.

Christmas. Over Christmas, manufactures often lower their price on the latest items because they make up for it in volume. Thus, during the Holiday season, you are able to buy the latest items at very competitive prices.
